ECOSYSTEM

Arena Blanca Reserve gets its name from the type of ecosystem it hosts, characterized by endemic flora and fauna species and varillal-type forest, with patches of palm forests.

BIODIVERSITY

White sand forests host a diverse variety of flora, especially birds. For example, the wire-crested thorntail (Discosura popelairii), rufous-breasted wood-quail (Odontophorus speciosus), and Zimmer's antbird (Sciaphylax castanea).

CONSERVATION

Arena Blanca is located in the buffer zone of the Alto Mayo Protection Forest protected natural area. Its conservation contributes to local, regional, and national well-being and sustainable development

LOCATION

Arena Blanca Reserve protects an area of 16 hectares, between primary and secondary forest. The reserve is located in the town of Aguas Verdes, Pardo Miguel district, Rioja province, San Martín region. You can reach it from Tarapoto airport (1 hour from Lima), from where you take a car to Rioja (2 hours and 30 min) and from there another car to Aguas Verdes (1 hour and 30 min). The entire car journey is on the paved Fernando Belaúnde Terry highway
